Omzyta is one of the MMR vaccines we use at The Baby Clinic in Waverley, Johannesburg. Here is what it protects against, when it is given and what it costs.
What MMR protects against
Measles: a highly contagious infection that can lead to serious illness.
Mumps: causes painful swelling of the glands near the jaw.
Rubella (German measles): usually mild in children, but it can seriously harm an unborn baby if a pregnant woman catches it.
Doses and timing
Two doses are given: the first at 1 year and a booster at 6 years, as listed on our vaccination schedule. Your nurse will confirm the right timing for your child. Babies also receive the government measles-rubella vaccine at 6 months.
