Omzyta is one of the MMR vaccines we use at The Baby Clinic in Waverley, Johannesburg. Here is what it protects against, when it is given and what it costs.

What MMR protects against

  • Measles: a highly contagious infection that can lead to serious illness.
  • Mumps: causes painful swelling of the glands near the jaw.
  • Rubella (German measles): usually mild in children, but it can seriously harm an unborn baby if a pregnant woman catches it.

Doses and timing

Two doses are given: the first at 1 year and a booster at 6 years, as listed on our vaccination schedule. Your nurse will confirm the right timing for your child. Babies also receive the government measles-rubella vaccine at 6 months.

What it costs at our clinic

  • MMR vaccine, per dose (first dose and booster)
    R420
  • Administration fee (including consultation)
    R470
  • Administration fee, vaccination only
    R350
  • Measles-rubella at 6 months (government vaccine)
    Free, plus the administration fee

Prices are in rand, were last confirmed in August 2026, exclude VAT unless stated, and may change.

Before your appointment

  • Tell the nurse about any current illness, allergies or health conditions.
  • Bring your child's Road to Health Book and earlier vaccination records.

Government vs private

The MMR vaccine is an optional private vaccine, so it is charged per dose on top of the administration fee. See how government and private fees compare.
